Suggest Treatment For Pain Due To Pancreatitis

Question: I was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis 6 years ago. It started off acute and developed into chronic with scar tissue because unfortunately I continued to drink..thankfully I joined AA and am no longer drinking. I'm still struggling with the pain, very swollen abdomen at all times, chills, nausea/vomiting occasionally, over all feeling lousy. I take tramadol on a daily basis which seemed to help and has cured my anxiety but it doesn't always help the pain...I occasionally take Vicodin which helps the pain but it destroys my stomach. It seems that when I go in to have me amylase levels tested it never shows it being elevated so doctors are perplexed as to why I'm feeling pain/or think I'm having an attack. I work a full time job which is good but sometimes the pain was so bad I had to leave work. Any advice on what can help?? My stomach seems to be getting more and more bloated each day

Brief Answer:
You can take some motility drugs like Domperidone

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX its good you could kick the habit. Most important is to stay away from alcohol. Slowly the pain would also go as the pancreas would have been burned out. You can take some motility enhancing medication like Domperidone regularly and also proton pump inhibitors like Pantoprazole on empty stomach. Take these for a month and you will find improvement. CT scan can be repeated yearly. You do not need to get it done frequently as it also has side effects of radiation. I hope I have answered your query. Feel free to ask for anyclarifications if need be. Take care. Dr Rishi, New XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
