Suggest Treatment For Pain Due To Kidney Stones

Posted on Fri, 27 Jun 2014
Question: My 17 yr old daughter has reoccurring kidney pain. Has been diagnosed as positive for having stones several times but told they are not large enough to cause pain. Three days ago she peed out two large blobs of fibrous material. It was yellowish but did not have the consistancy of puss or snot.
It broke apart when we fished it out of the toilet to take with us to the urgent care. Urgent care said she had a fever and blood in her urine. They called today to say her culture came back negative. We have been to a urologist
We have been to a pediatric urologist,
She had had multiple scans and ultra sounds with another ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow. They always come back negative.
This problem has sent her to the ER 5-6 times in the last 18 months.

I her mother know kidney pain like no other in 2007 my ureter was nearly severed during my hysterectomy and was not discovered until three weeks post op because I was dismissed as wanting to continue narcotics. I ended up dialing 911 spending 1 week in the hospital on a dilauded pump and three more failed procedures. Finaly A radiologist had to insert the stent through my back along with the
nephrostomy bag after teo urologist each tried for three hours to insert the stent in the traditional manor.
I had that stent for 6 months and then another one for three months after the first one caused scar tissue.
Anyway this is not about me this is about her. No one can FAKE that kind of pain esp kidney pain it's the worst.
I would rather birth a baby every day than have kidney pain.
If she does not have an infection and the stones are not causing her pain
What else could this be?

We keep getting told it's nothing but we keep ending up back at the dr with her crying

Brief Answer:
Sad, CT scan is a must.

Detailed Answer:
welcome to the forum.
I went through your well narrated history.
The situation may be little more complex.
I can comment better if the scan results are available.
If not done till now, i would suggest to get a CT SCAN , as it gives better picture of the stones.
Also, based on the soft stone passed in the urine, SERUM uric acid test will help to deal her situation.
Kindly get back with the results,
Sincerely,

Her CT scan just said multiple bilateral stones
So we went to a uroligist who basically said she was crazy and that the stones in the kidney would not cause her pain as theu were too small and not in the ureter and even if in the ureter we were told there are no nerves in the ureter or kidney i can not remember which so we went to the pediatric uroligist and he concurred with the adult urologist.
And said she she was constipated and gave her miralax. We have seen several times her passing material that is soft and not hard the other day it was two LARGE blobs
She often uses a funnel filter when she feels pain and we frequently find matter that looks like a stone or grains of sand but are soft?

Brief Answer:
Needs analysis of the tissue.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
The passes out stones or clot or tissue needs to be analysed to find out its nature.
Serum uric acid also is necessary.
Treatment may be started based on the results of the above tests.
Wish her good health,
sincerely,
