Question: I have a swollen left arm. There is a constriction of unknown. Origin in my arm pit. It has caused severe swelling and pain. It has been suggested I have a stent put in. Would like to know more about this procedure.

Brief Answer:
Stenting is a safe option

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your query.

If the vein is compressed, then a stent can help a lot in restoring the pathway of blood and reduce pain and swelling. It is quite safe in experienced hands.

However, this doesn't address the primary disease, the thing which caused this obstruction in the first place. You have mentioned regarding a biopsy, which suggests there is a mass. Now that the biopsy is inconclusive, we can do a PET CT scan to look at the problem in detail. Depending on the results, we can proceed further.

Hope this helps.
