Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling In Calf Muscle After Injury
Question: Hi,
I injured my right calf muscle this morning while playing tennis. I still can't walk on it or put weight on my right leg. My calf muscle is tight and tender, only a little swollen, and hurts most when I try to stretch my heel, or when I take a full step.
When it happened, I thought that a tennis ball from another court hit the back of my calf really hard. I felt a 'pop.' But obviously, the burst of pain came from the inside.
What should I do? do you think this is worse than just a muscle strain? I am worried about a ruptured tendon.
Thank you,
xxxx

Brief Answer:
You should visit the ER without delay
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have carefully gone through the details provided and understand your concerns. Rather than a full tendon rupture, there is more likelihood of partial tear of the calf muscle or its tendon. Yes, I think it to be worse than just a muscle strain. It requies medical attention and you should visit the ER without delay. Ideally a plastic surgeon will be best able to analyze the status although a general surgeon should also be able to give a proper assessment. Till then you may apply hot compress alternating with cold/ice compress.
