Brief Answer:
Appropriate treatment depends..

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The appropriate treatment for ottitis media with effusion depends on duration of the problem. Let me explain what I meant.
1. A long standing / chronic otitits media with effusion what we call serous ottitis media needs a grommet (tube) insertion. Grommet tube insertion is the appropriate treatment for chronic and long standing middle ear effusion.
2. Recent and acute otitis can be managed with antihistamine drugs, prophylactic antibiotic, steam inhalation as well as valsalva maneuver. Your treating doctor will know about these options.

If you have pain during the course of otitis media, you can consider NSAID pain medications along with aforementioned options.

Since your query was theoretical, I have answered it in theory. If you need a more personalised response, I will look forward to a detailed account of you problem / concern.

Hope this helped.
