Suggest Treatment For Numbness In The Toes

default
Posted on Tue, 14 Feb 2017
Question: Both feet are swollen by about 25% -- They are almost beet red. This started a week ago.
The real pain is in the 2nd toe to the right of the big toe of the right foot.
At night in bed there is no pain - just numbness in all my toes ( the past 2+ years ).
At lunch time I have real pain, so I take a nap for 1-2 hours All is pain free until 8-9 PM and the pain comes back big time.
About 2 years ago my DR. said I was getting Neroopatree ...
So what do you think might be going on? I'm 75 and tests say I have Parkensons, too. XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
Swelling and redness of feet causes

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX thanks for asking from HCM.

I can understand your concern. The swelling in both feet with pain and redness is suggestive of some inflammatory pathology. It can be

- Raynaud's disease - It can cause swelling, redness, pain followed by bluish discolouration of feet. There are multiple episodes. It occurs in those who are having
autoimmune disorder, smoking history, doing work requires drilling.

- Peripheral vascular disease - There are many types of peripheral vascular diseases. The involvement of small and medium sized arteries in both feet can cause severe redness, swelling, pain, abnormal pigmentation, ulceration.

- Cellulitis or necrotising fascitis - It is a type of infection. As infection usually involves one side limb, it is uncommon in your case.

- Chronic venous insufficiency - The poor venous drainage can cause pooling of blood in gravity dependent areas. It can cause swelling and rest of the symptoms.

- Some systemic illness like heart disease, liver disease.

I advise you to consult physician. He will examine your
- pulses
- lower limb swelling
- heart and abdomen

After this, he will be able to localise the cause. To confirm diagnosis, few specific tests might be needed like
- Color doppler of limb vessels
- ECHO and ECG
- Ultrasound of abdomen

This will confirm the diagnosis. Further treatment will depend upon the diagnosis.
If you need any kind of help, do let me know. I will be happy to help you.
Thanks. Take care.
