Brief Answer:
Carpal tunnel syndrome most likely.

Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.

The symptoms you describe indicate a peripheral nerve damage. Their distribution makes involvement of what is called the median nerve most likely, it is the nerve supplying sensation for those fingers. It's most commonly involve in the setting of what is called carpal tunnel syndrome, compression of the nerve as it traverses in the wrist a canal called the carpal tunnel.
The cause is not found in many cases, but it is more common in people suffering from diabetes or arthritis.

In order to confirm the diagnosis a test called nerve conduction studies.

If confirmed treatment initially consists in trying conservative measures like wearing a wrist splint. If that doesn't work local steroid injection may be tried. If still ineffective then surgery is considered, a simple procedure.

Thank you, Doctor Taka! You have explained it so well and eased a lot of my worries. I do a lot of fine hand sewing and tailoring and was afraid I might have to give that up! Thank you again. Eva

Brief Answer:
You're welcome, hope you feel better soon.

Detailed Answer:
If your activity involves a lot of flexing of that particular wrist that may partially contribute to it as well, though as I said there is not a single cause, more like predisposing factors. As I said though if simple measures like splints do not work surgery is usually curative.

Let me know if I can further assist you.
