Suggest Treatment For Night Terrors

default
Posted on Mon, 26 Sep 2016
Question: I have been having events of screaming in the middle of the night and thrashing about all witnessed by my husband. Sometimes I even laugh or sit up in bed. I used to walk in my sleep when I was young. I have had several of these events lately and my husband wakes me up. I sometimes remember some things, such as the time when I laughed but I don't remember screaming.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

The diagnosis here is "night terrors." They are not dangerous, but can certainly be distressing. The recommended treatment is psychotherapy, or in some cases benzodiazepine medication such as diazepam or clonazepam. I see you are already on clonazepam -- perhaps your dose needs to be raised.
