Suggest Treatment For Neck Pain

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Dec 2015
Question: I have been having a burning pain in the back of my neck for 3 years. At first it would happen after bending my neck for hours for my job. Now 3 years later it happens all the time without being caused by bending my head. The burning pain is very intense and Tylenol does nothing for my pain. I am alergic to ibuprofen. It hurts to move my head all the way to the right. Also every couple months I feel a sharp shooting pain down my neck. It feels like someone has came up behind me and pulled aggressively on my neck. I am 24 years old.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of extra cervical rib producing pinched nerve pressure

Detailed Answer:
Hi, XXXX,
Thanks for posting query.
Read your history in detail.
Having pain in back of neck particularly during bending of neck remained for hours indicates that there might be having some pinched nerve pressure producing burning nerve pain.
As you are young, possibility of cervical spondiltis is unlike but there can be possibility of having extra cervical rib giving this problem.
I advice to go for x-ray thoraco-cervical vertebrae which will show extra rib if it is there.
Consult orthopedic surgeon and if require Neuro-physician and get examined.
After proper diagnosis, plan of treatment can be decided.
Meanwhile,
Avoid more bending from neck,
Do not put pillow under neck while sleeping,
Keep neck straight while doing long job work and have some nap in between.
Take vitamin B1. B6, B12 supplements.
I hope I answered your query.
If you have further query or clarification, please write back.
Wishing you speedy recovery.
