Question: I have been very Nauseas, with a little vomiting. My stomach is making strange noises and I have been exhausted. I recently started taking metaformin. I have back pain also. Is this a side effect?

Back ache is a more common side effect, nausea is less common.

I am sorry you are not feeling very well. If all of your symptoms came on in relation to starting metformin, I think it is fair to say that they are side effects of the medicine for you.

Back ache and muscle aches are listed with common side effects for metformin. Also a feeling of being unwell and stomach discomfort.

Nausea is a less frequent side effect. But just because it is less frequent doesn't mean it isn't a side effect you are experiencing.

I would advise you let the prescribing doctor know about your symptoms. He or she may want you to stop the metformin.
