Question: A few weeks ago i seen my doctor about my stomach issues. The problems were abdominal discomfort, burning burps, farting, and lots of stomach gurgling. And my stool was slightly softer. But no nauesa vomiting or stool colour change at all. I feel good besids for the discomfport. He suspected acid peptic diesase or
giardiasis. He gave me 6 weeks of
pantoprazole and metronidazole for a week.
Its has been just over 2 weeks now of taking
my meds and i have felt great. Besids for today. All the symptoms came back today. Could it be bacause on my vacation over the weekend i ate steak, fries n gravey, a couple beer? Could it be decaf coffe? And i am a smoker. Im so scared i read online about stomach cancer and its my biggest fear. Im only 29 :(

Brief Answer:
It definitely is an acute exacerbation of Gastritis. Please quit smoking.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for your question.
Your Doctor has given you the correct treatment and that is the reason for the relief.
You are spot on when you say that this problem happened due to the change in food like steak, fries, gravey, beer, coffee. All of these things can trigger and precipitate Gastritis and make it worse. Please try and stay away from most of these things. And off course as you know, smoking will not help you. It will also add to symptoms and severity of Gastritis. Please try and quit. If you are well determined to quit I can suggest some medicines to help you quit.
I suggest you continue Pantoprazole for a total of three months.
As far as stomach cancer is concerned, sadly, it does not give any symptoms in the early stages. Later stage also it just presents as generalized weakness and lethargy and very few stomach cancers give any symptoms to help the clinician towards a diagnosis.
But I dont think you should worry about that as long as you can modify your diet and stop smoking.
Take care and do let me know if there are any further queries on this issue.

Brief Answer:
Please seek help for quitting the smoking habit.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Thanks for your answer.
Firstly, to get a scopy done you would definitely need a needle and to be XXXXXXX with you the needle is much less problem than the scope itself. Its quite uneasy in the beginning when they put a big tube in your mouth uptill your intestines.
But these things need to be done and they will help you deal with it, if it comes to that.
As far as smoking quitting is concerned you should please take help for the same.
There are drugs like Varenicline(Champix) which really ease the process of quitting. DO let me know if you need more information on that and help with quitting.
Take care and feel free to ask any queries that might arise.

doctor
Answered by Dr. Rishi (58 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
You need not have a bland diet all your life. Just everything in moderation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
You do not have to continue bland diet life long.
Once you quit smoking and know the things to avoid then you will not need to have medicines or continue a bland diet. But you will require to do some lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, decrease alcohol intake, decrease intake of fried foods and decrease intake of coffee and tea which increase acid production in stomach. Also, You should introduce some exercise in your life if you already do not indulge in any. You should not lie down immediately after any meal and should start getting used to multiple small meals rather then two or three large meals a day.
These are some precautions which will keep you healthy and free from Gastritis all your life
Take care and do let me know if there are any other questions.
