Suggest Treatment For Nausea And Palpitations While On Inderal

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Apr 2017
Question: My mother has been on Inderal for 36 years - originally prescribed for heart palpitations. She has been having many problems over the past few months and recently had a cardiac ablation to see if that would alleviate her symptoms of weakness when standing or doing anything. Once they got in, they could find no heart tissue that required ablation. So she stayed in the hospital for a few more tests (tilt table), and now is at home with orders to stop taking her Inderal. Her/My concern is stopping this medication cold turkey. She is having problems today including dizziness, continued PVCs, nausea, etc. The actual diagnosis after all of this is Orthostatic Hypotension. Are these current symptoms normal? What should our next steps be? She has only been off her Inderal since Thu. April 6.

We have been reading up on Inderal effects and viewing a lot of QA online for people who have been through cessation of this medication. Many were told to start reducing their intake by taking every other day for 2 weeks, then every 2 days for 2 weeks, etc. What is your opinion on this solution?

Brief Answer:
Go back to her usual dose minus quarter of it

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, it is not advised at all to stop inderal abruptly. this is very dangerous and can trigger heart beat irregularities that can be so severe that it may cause sharp chest pain and heart attack
there is no clear guide lines for stopping inderal but it is adviced to tapper the dose over a period of 2 months . this can be done by reducing quarter of the initial dose every 2 weeks . this will greatly reduce the withdrawal symptoms. it is also adviced to limit the physical activity while lowering the dose and to avoid exhaustion.
I hope I answered your question.if you don't have any other clarifications then please close the discussion and close the answer .
