Brief Answer:
Acetaminophen and/or ibuprofen

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The safest to use is paracetamol (acetaminophen in the US). I believe a well-known brand name in the US is Tylenol but I'm sure there are many formulations to pick from. Another choice is ibuprofen or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) but although stronger than paracetamol, I would consider this only if paracetamol won't work as expected.

All kind of drugs should be avoided if you have a history of an allergic reaction or other kinds of reaction to them in the past. And keep in mind that fighting fever with paracetamol and the like is not equivalent to fighting the infection. These drugs just make fever and its symptoms less annoying but the infection still follows its course.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
