default
Posted on Mon, 27 Apr 2015
Question: My son 2yrs 6mnts has mouth ulcer or thrush (not sure of the exact disease) with white tiny spots inside the mouth for the last 3 days. I am attaching the photo. He has no fever. I applied candid mouth paint. He felt no pain except after application of the mouth paint for a while. His voice is not exactly normal and it is somewhat like the symptoms of sore throat due to cold.

Brief Answer:
These are mouth ulcers...would heal spontaneously!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about what your son is experiencing. I have reviewed the symptoms and the images and the findings are suggestive of mouth ulcers. Mouth ulcers are common and caused by germs in the mouth. It rarely requires antibiotics. Treatment consist in rinsing the mouth with an antiseptic mouth wash solution and healing would be spontaneous. If there is pain, then tylenol is usually sufficient to address the pain. Healing generally occurs between 5-7days. The most feared complications is inability of the child to eat as a result of pain in the mouth. So long as this isn't any major concern, be calm and all would settle by the 7th day.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.

Rinsing the mouth with antiseptic mouth wash is difficult as he couldn't understand rinsing the mouth. Is it harmful to always swallow the mouth wash?

Brief Answer:
Apply on cotton and wipe the areas with!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Small volumes would not harm but if he swallows all the times, that becomes a concern.

As of now, I will recommend you apply on a cotton wool and wipe on the areas. That would be sufficient.

If there are any other concerns, Let me know.I also believe he should be feeling better already. If that is not the case, let me know.

I wish your son well.
