Brief Answer:
Fracture of the upper end of the arm bone. Needs a cast

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

Thanks for the query.

I have read the history and reviewed the Xray provided by you.

There is a Salter XXXXXXX fracture of the upper end of the humerus. Luckily it is not displaced or separated much.

This fracture will heal if the arm isn't moved at all.

Strict immobilisation is necessary for it to heal normally.

I would usually advise a plaster of Paris cast bandage over the arm and shoulder after about 5 days when the swelling around the shoulder has subsided. This will keep any movements from happening and help the fracture to heal.

Pain killer medication can be taken in the form of Syrup Ibugesic plus 2 teaspoons twice a day. The limb can be kept elevated over a pillow kept under the shoulder when she is lying down. This will help to drain away the swelling.

This fracture can take about 6 weeks to heal if there is strict immobilisation.

Kindly consult her Doctor about the need for a cast as it is necessary to immobilise this fracture to prevent it from breaking further and also to allow for normal healing.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu

Brief Answer:
This is only elastic adhesive bandage. Not the ideal correct cast

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.

This is strapping with Dynaplast elastic adhesive bandage and not the plaster of Paris cast that I was intending on.

The plaster cast should be hard and extending from the top of the shoulders to below the elbow region.

I hope I have answered your query.

Dr. Aashish Raghu
