Suggest Treatment For Mental Illness Caused By Failed Relationship

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: Hello, our son is divorced, has two children and went through a very traumatic marriage. He is 37 years old. After his divorce he also lost his business and other endeavors have met with failure including relationships. He does not sleep well, gets overly irritated, refuses to seek medical attention because his issues will become "public". We have read symptoms of bipolar and ADHD...and feel that our son fits the description given on the websites. What can we do to help him? We are quite scared that he may have a car accident or get into fights or do something that may lead to legal issues. Thank you!! PS: We live in Florida

Brief Answer:
Your fear is right

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

it is difficult to make a diagnosis on basis of available information but it is clear that your son is suffering with mental illness. It is also clear that it is not ADHD as it does not start at age of 37 year.
The possibility of bipolar is maximum since his prominent symptom is irritability and decreased sleep.

Having said this it is essential to seek medical service as soon as possible as delay in treatment sometime adversely affects prognosis. You can contact your primary care physician for further direction.

In case your son is not ready to seek medical service than legal orders can be obtained from the local court for involuntary admission in psychiatric facility.

Hope I am able to answer your concerns.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for me, so that I get a good feedback.
