Suggest Treatment For Massive Stroke

default
Posted on Fri, 6 Nov 2015
Question: My 90 year old father had a massive stroke, left side, and neighbor found him , rushed to hospital but they didn't give TPA. It is 3 weeks since stroke.....he has been in ICU 2- hospitals and not in long term acute care. He is a a peg tube , a trach, and is still on a ventilator. His eyes are open , he responds to commands (left hand), can move both right and left feet. I'm disapointed they did not use device to get the clot. I even requested antibiotic minoclcycline. Nothing was attemped!!

Brief Answer:
There must be a reason for not opting a clot removal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome to Health Care Magic.

Thanks for writing.

I am Dr.Muhammad Ahmad. I have read your question completely, i understand your concern and will try to help you in best way possible.

Was it an ischemic stroke? what dod CT scan and MRi reports say?

TPA is not always indicated sometimes there are factors which can make TPA, a death sentence for patient like hemorrhage , hypertension, SOL brain old age etc. And there are a few situations when TPa has no benefit.

In my opinion doctors would have considered all the possible options and there must be a reason that they didn't go for clot resolution. There is always a weighing between benefits and risks and I am quite sure risks would have outwieghed the benefits.

I would like you not to feel bad about what happened In my opionion experts would have made the choice for a reason and reason is always patient's short and long term benefit nothing else.

I would also mention here that if he is following commands and moving limbs then there is every chance of him getting off the vent real soon so keep hopes and morale high.

Things will get better , I am glad that your neighbour found him in time and he is on road to recovery.

I hope this answered your question, a
if you have more please feel free to ask.

Regrads.
