Brief Answer:
Can be a cyst or a node

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
To recapitulate: Female/48 - Hysterectomy at the age of 33 for fibroids - just discovered the lump in the left armpit - wants to know what it is...

The most probable causes of just discovered lump in the armpit are as follows:
- Sebaceous cyst or a boil. This is one of the common sites of such a cyst because of too many glands in the armpit. The duct of one or some get blocked to cause a cyst. This is attached to the skin and so moves if you move the skin. Can be tender if infected. Can see a small spot with which it is attached to the skin (punctum)

- Lymph node. At the age of 48, this should be considered.
This is always deep seated and almost firm and not easily XXXXXXX Skin moves easily over it.
If this is thought of, breasts should be palpated to examine to find out any lumps.

Ultrasonography and FNAC gives a good preliminary diagnosis.
Clinical examination by a General Surgeon, clinical evaluation and investigations like ultrasonography, mammography and excision biopsy gives perfect diagnosis and a plan for further treatment if required.

I hope this answers your query, please feel free to ask relevant further questions if needed or if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
