Suggest Treatment For Lump On Breast After Bruising

Question: Hello,
I am a 71 yr. old woman in excellent health. About three weeks ago, I was moving some boxes, and a box edge poked me in my right breast. The bruise went from yellow to blue to purple/red and lasted about two and half weeks. Directly under the bruise I noticed a hard rock like bump had formed. I realize bumps form under bruises, but I was wondering how long this might last. It does not hurt. I have yearly mammograms and am due again in December. Is there anything I can do to help to hasten the process? Should I seek medical attention now, or give it some time to dissolve?

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

As you correctly stated , bumps do form as a result of trauma.

It is due to the formation of fibroid/scar tissue at the site of the trauma.

Since the formation is part of the body's inflammatory process the use of anti inflammatory pain medication may help even if the area is not uncomfortable.
This includes medications such as ibuprofen, cataflam or naproxen which should all be used on a full stomach.

It can take weeks sometimes up to a few months (3 to 6) for the lesions to resolve completely.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
