Suggest Treatment For Lump On Both Sides Of Throat Below The Jawline
Question: Hello,
I am able to feel what I am pretty sure are my submandibular salivary glands. They feel very soft, almost spongy, and move around very easily. I can feel them on both sides of my throat, just below the jawline. They feel like they are about the size of an olive. To the touch, they feel about the same size. They are not tender and I'm not having any pain or other symptoms. The gland on the right side seems to protrude more than the left and I can see a small bulge when I look in the mirror right where the I can feel the glands. Is this normal, or do they sound enlarged?

I have read your query and understand your concern.
In my opinion , as per your clinical history it appears that you are most probably having both side sub-mandibular lymph node swelling or sub-mandibular salivary glands swelling . Since they move around very easily , most likely they are sub-mandibular lymph nodes swelling . Submandibular salivary glands are fixed .
Bimanual palpation of submandibular gland & ultrasound of submandibular region help to know cause of swelling .
Sub-mandibular lymph nodes swelling common in frequent oral cavity , throat & dental infections .
Since you can able to feel the glands , it is not normal but mild enlarged .
If I were your treating doctor , I would advice
Antiseptic Mouth Wash twice daily . It will decrease any source of chronic infection in oral cavity .

Really? I have read and viewed numerous photos saying that submandibular salivary glands can often times be felt and it is normal. I should add that these have been like this for years and have not changed in size, I just recently developed a curiosity about them. I used to think I was feeling my tonsils, until I researched it a bit.
