Suggest Treatment For Lump In Calf Muscle

Posted on Mon, 11 Jan 2016
Question: Hi I have had a lump in my calf for over 10 years. I am 24 years old. I don't remember when I first got it but I have never had it treated. The bump itself is painful to touch but usually not painful unless something hits it. It isn't very visible but you can feel a lump when you touch it.

Brief Answer:
Lipoma is the most probable diagnosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Your description along with attached photo most likely fit to lipoma. This kind of lump is benign. It almost always stays benign. Can be painful when injured. It can be soft like a fat when palpating it.
As it is with you for 10 years, does not change much through that time, no need to be worried and no need to treat it. It can be removed, but for cosmetic reason.
Otherwise, you may leave it alone.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.

Thank you for your reply. My concern is that it is more painful than usual today, without touching it. Waves of pain centralized to that area. Some tingling in the foot and when I stretch out. Any way that this is malignant?

Brief Answer:
This is not malignant.

Detailed Answer:
Pain is not characteristic for a malignancy. Such lump is suspicious when it grows really fast (like in few weeks). Otherwise, pain is rather due to inflammation. To make sure, you may have soft tissues ultrasound.
