Suggest Treatment For Lump In Armpit

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Question: hi I'm a 59 year old male. two weeks ago I found a very small painless lump in my armpit. It is the size of a match head, kind of rubbery soft and moveable under the skin. Now when I shower and direct the warm/ hot water to the site for some minutes, the lump shrinks somewhat only to come back to it's original size 30 mins or so later. I have no other symptoms or infections.

Brief Answer:
It's Lipoma or Lymph node.

Detailed Answer:
HI

Greetings from Dr.Divakara.P
Thanks for posting your query.

It could be either a Lymph node or a localized fat collection ( Lipoma ) Both are harmless condition and doesn't need to be taken out .

A lymph node will reduce in size by itself overtime but a lipoma will not reduce in size but may grow. Also if it is a lymph node there will be some other cause of its enlargement which need to be found.

Hence it is necessary to know what it is exactly. In that regard I advice you to get FNAC test of the swelling and revert back with reports.

Hope this information was useful to you.
Any clarifications feel free to ask .

Regards.

Interesting that you think it may be a lipoma, as i have a 3cm x 2.5cm lipoma in my other armpit, verified by scans.
