Brief Answer:
Considerations

Detailed Answer:
hello and thank you for sending the question.

From what you have described it is possible that an underlying infection can be contributing to your symptoms. Viral or bacterial infection can cause swelling of the back of the tongue and the tonsils which can give you a sense of fullness with swallowing.

we generally recommend good supportive care which includes hydration and plenty of rest. Ibuprofen might be helpful to alleviate some of the inflammation associated with what you are experiencing. If your symptoms persist or if you develop persistent fevers then it would be reasonable to check in with your primary care doctor to see if it would be helpful to obtain a culture to see if there is a bacteria that is contributing to your symptoms.
strep bacteria can sometimes cause soreness and sensation of fullness in the throat as well. If this is the case then an antibiotic would be helpful.

Thank you again for sending your question.

Sincerely,

Dr. Galamaga
