Suggest Treatment For Lower Spine, Fractures On Shoulder And Arm

default
Posted on Sat, 29 Aug 2015
Question: I have a pain at the lowest point of my spine. I think I hurt something there in a fall last October in which I dislocated and broke my shoulder and had several arm fractures. I may also have bumped my spine somehow. In the beginning it seemed like a little buzz or tingle. When it occurred, my upper legs would go weak; and I would have to grab onto something to keep standing. The pain is now greater and the accompanying weakness is now much worse. I went to a neurologist, and he said I had neuropathy in my legs. But I am not so sure that is the answer. (I am 78 years old.)

Get detailed investigations

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
i have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Traumatic injury due to fall may lead to fracture of spinal vertebrae or coccyx dislocation/injury.
At this age the bones are osteoporotic and are prone to injury related fracture.
pain at tip of spine may be due to coccyx involvement.
Other causes are to be evaluated too.
Do you have any other associated illness like diabetes, hepatitis, HIV, Myeloma, urinary complains, upper limb symptoms.
You need to be evaluated with MRI of spine and xray of lumbosacral region for coccyx.
For suspected neuropathy you should get blood sugar, thyroid profile, ;liver function test, urea, creatinine, immunoelectrophoresis for myeloma, vitamin B12, D3, calcium, phosphate.
Nerve conduction test should also be done.
For treatment you can take pregabalin or gabapentin with opiod pain releivers.
Avoid sitting for prolonged duration over hard surface.
Do get back to me with these details.
Hope you found the answer helpful .
