Suggest Treatment For Lower Abdominal Pain

default
Posted on Wed, 11 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I had sex last night w my bf and my lower abdomen is in so much pain I can barely sit up straight or lean forward while sitting. I did have a positive Pap smear recently and have to have a colposcopy in a few weeks. His ex passed last month from cervical cancer (hence the Pap smear and concern even though I've been vaccined) could this be a cervical cancer issue? The pain was not there immediately after or the following morning.. It took about 8-10 hours for it to hurt and has gotten progressively worse over the last several hours to the point that I'm really almost immobile. ????

Brief Answer:
Pelvic ultrasound advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, i understand your health concern.
In my opinion it can be related to the recent sexual activity.
I would like to advise you pelvic ultrasound by transvaginal route at the earliest.
There are two possibilities in my mind-
- torsion of an ovarian cyst (most likely)
- ectopic tubal pregnancy.
Both of them are emergency surgical conditions and need immidiate attention.
These are not related to cervical cancer but still get colposcopy done as scheduled for positive pap smear.
Get the ultrasound done and then we can discuss the report.
Till then take tablet buscopan thrice a day and see if you feel better.
Take care

Ok, I will ask for a pelvic ultrasound transvagjbally asap. However, the pain is really low and in the front... Not
Higher like where my Fallopian tubes would be. Should I abstain from sexual intercourse until seeing a dr? Is it possible to worsen any cervical cancer issue by having sexual intercourse? Could it be endometriosis? I had internal ultrasounds of my ovaries 2 years ago but the cyst found was one that the dr said is normal around menstruation.... Is that accurate? Thanks!!!

Brief Answer:
avoid intercourse

Detailed Answer:
In pelvic structures pain can be referred from one place to another because of same nerve supply.
You should avoid intercourse not because of cervical cancer issue but because your pain can get worse or if there is a cyst then it can even rupture.
No it is not endometriosis most probably especially if you don't have any mensuration problem.
Yes cysts of about 2-2.5 cm are common in second half of menstrual cycle so your doctor was right 2 years back but this time it can be a bigger cyst so a fresh ultrasound is a must.
All the best.
