Brief Answer:
Please, get the cause investigated and identified!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this anemia that you have reported. We would need more information on what the possible cause of this anemia is. Also, we need further studies to understand what the exact cause of this anemia is. Could it be caused by blood loss, iron deficiency, folic acid/vitamin B12 deficiency, difficulties with the bone marrow, etc.?

In an elderly, all chronic anemia must lead to investigation for a possible cancer of the digestive tract. For this, you would need to have an FOBT and a colonoscopy and maybe and upper GI scope. Have you been having your regular colonoscopy screens as recommended beginning age 50 years? If so what were the last findings.

In all, I will like a comprehensive blood studies and iron studies. Also, I will like that you should be investigated for digestive bleeds and follow up your screening colonoscopy. If you have more information as to what the cause is, please provide.

I will like to hear from you. my recommendation and treatment plan would need more information from you and/or testing that is not immediately available.

I hope this helps. I wish you ell and thank you so much for using our services. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
