Detailed Answer:
Thank you very much for your question.

You have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder as well as social anxiety. You say you have improved with Cipralex 20mg daily, but still suffer from low energy, low motivation, unstable mood, and pain. You have been prescribed Zyprexa 5mg and have noticed difficulty concentrating, and want some advice on how to deal with these symptoms.

First, let me say that your doctor has done a good job so far. Cipralex is an excellent medication for depression, and Zyprexa is an excellent medication to help with depression as well as shifting mood. Keep in mind that it takes 6-8 weeks for these medications to take full effect, so it may be that you need to continue waiting to see the full benefits of these medications. The side effect of loss of concentration can be seen with Zyprexa, but more likely the difficulty concentrating is actually a symptom of depression, which Zyprexa will help treat. I would encourage you to continue waiting, as the side effects of these medications will go away, and the good antidepressant effects will kick in around 6-8 weeks in.

I have some other thoughts about medication. If you are having pain, instead of Cipralex, maybe you should try Cymbalta or Effexor. These are antidepressants that also treat pain very well. Also, if you are too sleepy with Zyprexa, another medication you can try that has fewer side effects is Risperdal. Talk with your doctor about considering these alternatives.
