Brief Answer:
Give acetaminophen.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to HealthcareMagic forum.
Thanks for posting to us.

A temperature of 99.9 need not be worried much- this falls in the upper normal range only.
Anyhow, features like refusal to eat, abdominal pain and rapid heartbeat may indicate beginning of a systemic infection.
Is he having any other features like severe headache, vomiting, pain or burning sensation on urination, increased frequency of urination, cough, throat pain etc?If no such symptoms, you can give her acetaminophen(250 mg thrice daily after food) for 3 days.

If she is not feeling better by 2 days or other symptoms mentioned appears, kindly see your doctor without delay as this will need antibiotics too.

Meanwhile, let her take adequate bed rest, drink plenty of oral fluids, and give a light diet including fruits/juice.

Hope this answer will help.

She says it hurts to urinate. She had a urine test at the doctor two days ago that only showed low levels of white blood cells. The nurse said that it was common but sent the sample off for further testing. My daughter was on antibiotics for a sinus infection twice within a month recently, so almost 20 days. I am leery of putting her right back on antibiotics. Since starting school she seems to be sick every 3 or 4 weeks. Is that normal? Thanks a lot.

Brief Answer:
Better to start antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,

If it hurts to urinate, in the background of other symptoms you mentioned, urinary tract infection is likely. In children, urine routine test has low sensitivity in detecting UTI compared to adults and urine culture is advised(which they already have sent).
So it is better to start antibiotic treatment. Your doctor will guide in this.
Meanwhile, let her drink plenty of oral fluids.

Being sick with recurrent infections every 3-4 weeks is not normal, and indicate inadequate immunological function. It will be fine if you can discuss this issue with your pediatrician for evaluation.
Avoiding exposure to cold and dust can help reducing frequency of sinusitis attacks.
Also, let her maintain a healthy diet rich in proteins, fruits and veggies. Adequate supply of vitamins and minerals are essential for good immunological function.

Hope you got cleared now.

Wishing for good health.
Thank you.
