Suggest Treatment For Leukoplakia

Question: I use smokless tobacco or did. I had my last dentist appointment the other day when I noticed wrinkled skin on my inner cheek. He said I had some keratosis. He said nothing looked suspicious and it was common. I asked him about the leathery grooved feeling area and a tiny bump I seem to feel in that area, on my inner cheek. He said it just looked like keratosis and I could have some irritated areas that would stay inflammed if I continued irritating it.
So, I continued dipping for a few weeks and finally just quit yesterday.
The area seems to be improving rapidly in just 24 hours.
As to the bump, Its difficult to locate with my tongue if i'm not irritating my mouth with snuff. Its also smaller than half a grain of rice.
I noticed when I actually looked inside my own mouth today I can see the healing keratosis which looks like light wrinkled grooves and textured. I inspected my whole mouth just to look around and I also saw all kinds of other things in the tissue of my gums and cheeks of what i'm guessing is just the normal ducts, glands, tissue, etc.. I'm refering to both sides of mouth.
I actually noticed where I do feel what seemed to me like a tiny bump in reality looks like its just part of the keratosis. But on the opposite side of my mouth on the other cheek I dont feel any bump or firmness or anything and theres no keratosis but do see a same tiny flesh colored dot in the same exact location. These are at the corners of my mouth a little lower down.
Are there ducts in these areas? I also noticed a line down each inner side of my cheeks so im thinking there is some anotomical location stuff of probably quite a few things on i'm seeing.

Anyway, your thoughts.
Also, once I remove the irritant how long should it take to heal?
My follow up with dentist is in 2 months.

Brief Answer:
Leukoplakia. Salivary glands ducts.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. What you are describing seems to be leukoplakia.

2. It is good to hear hat you have quit using the smokeless tobacco.

3. This should settle down the lesions in a for to six weeks. Some residual keratosis may remain for several months or years.

4. The risk of oral cancers wil decrease with time.

5. The bumps are probably minor salivary glands or the papillae and openings of the parotid salivary glands.

6. Close-up images will help. Mark out the areas that you feel as there is no single exact definition of a normal oral cavity and throat.

I hope that I have answered your queries. If you have any further questions, I will be available to answer them.

Regards.

Thanks for the response.
Yes, when not using tobacco the entire area seems to be responding well. I did notice that a few coffees this morning seemed to make the area feel a little rough or acidic (I often avoid some foods as I have acid reflux per 15 years) but upon inspection it is still looking better.
You may be correct. DDS said that leukoplakia and keratosis were similar but actually different, so not sure what he meant. he said mine was a callus type and consistent with "dippers lip"? Whatever that means?

Brief Answer:
Leukoplakia is an idiopathic keratosis.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for writing back.

1. . Leukoplakia is idiopathic keratosis. .

2. Dippers lip is the keratosis that develops where the tobacco is kept on the mouth.

3. Keep a regular follow up. As long as you avoid further exposure to tobacco, this will keep improving.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
