Suggest Treatment For Leg Weakness In An Elderly Person
I noticed over the past few months that sometimes when I am walking or running I feel weakness in my leg, without much pain associated with the event. I have had my left hip replaced(10 years ago) and been diagnosed with stenosis and scoleosis. Also, I have been diagnosed with XXXXXXX 6 prostate cancer that has been watched for the past 6 years.
Advice to follow up with a primary care provider for further evaluation
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HealthcareMagic,
Weakness in leg indicates that there is a nerve problem, which could either be at the level of spinal cord or brain.
Spinal nerve compression can present with such symptoms. Since you have already been diagnosed with spinal stenosis, any merging that further decrease the space in the spinal column can cause such symptoms. Intervertebral disc prolapse, vertebral compression fracture, tumor metastasis can all cause this.
Confirmation of diagnosis requires MRI scanning of the spine.
Another possibility for leg weakness could be a central nervous system problem like stroke, which can be ruled out by CT brain.
Management will depend on the underlying cause.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for undergoing necessary evaluation and management.
Hope this answers your question
