Brief Answer:
I don't think its intentional.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM

I would not say that any intention or motive is involved behind maladaptive behaviours in Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

In PD enduring, maladaptive behaviours, cognition and emotional behaviour that are seen in various aspects and are deviated from those accepted in individuals culture.

So similar happens in BPD in which the abnormal behaviours, cognition and inner experiences are seen which result in extremes of anger and impulsivity. These are either very loveable and show extreme closeness (idealisation) or become extremely angry (devaluation). They see anger in emotionally neutral tone and this is the reason they show extremes of behaviour.

So they harm others emotionally but intention was not involved and at the same time they have no insight for their maladaptive behaviours.

Thanks and Take care
