Suggest Treatment For Knee And Ankle Pain

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: My knee hurts on the inner side and back of the knee. At times it sends pain down to my ankle and up above my knee. It hurts when I walk, rests, and sleep. I don't recall doing anything that could have caused this to happen. I am an active person, take no medication, but am 71 years old, and have never had a knee injury. I don't have any swelling nor any redness. Couldit be my ACL thats bothering me?

Just to let you know, it's more painful going from a sitting position to a standing position. and of course i can't bend it tight. I don't feel any swelling when I check with my hands, but when I try to bend it, it feels to my knee, swollen and won't let me bend it all the way.

Brief Answer:
Sounds like osteoarthritis

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I am Dr Mittal
I have read your query
I think I will be able to help you

The symptoms you have stated sound like osteoarthritis.
There may be no swelling in the initial stages
Pain is there that increases on moving
(ACL causes knee instability when climbing slopes)
It certainly comes on its own and needs no trigger.
And restricts mobility of the joint.

The best way to diagnose it is by an x ray of the knee

In the initial stages, I would suggest just knee exercise and physiotherapy
Keep the joints warm- cold will increase the pain
And try this for 6 months.
If the pain does not go, medicines may need to be started.
Temporarily, pain killers like etoracoxib may be taken with antacids on sos basis- you will need to meet a GP for the prescription

Please feel free to contact me for more information
I will be glad to help you
Best of luck
