Suggest Treatment For Kidney Stones In Adults

Question: I have been to the hospital numerous times passing kidney stones. They say I have no kidney disease in the ER but I have constant pain in my back, either when urinating or at any other given time. Of course the pain increases when I am passing a stone but I have no insurance to cover a specialist. I keep getting palmed off at the ER and lately I have been fighting high fevers with the pain. My creatinine is 122 and has been over a 3 month period and some other tests are indicating high results. What is going on?

Sorry for the delay in my response.

The best and gold standard test to identify the presence of stones in the kidney or the urinary tract is Ultrasound scan of the abdomen and pelvis.

Almost 90% of the stones can be located and assessed by the scan

I would like to know if you have underwent such scan in the ER u had been. Also, if possible please do share the blood test reports. I shall have a look at the reports and advice on what to do next.

Meanwhile do consume cranberry juice on regular basis, this will lessen the chances of infection and also reduce the stones.

I have had several ultrasounds all showing multiple stones. mostly in right kidney. one is 8mm. I have flomax for when passing a stone. but my concern is the constant pain swelling of hands face feet. distended belly and constant fatigue. My gfr is 141 my creatinine is 0.47 and Bun/crt ratio 122 my nitrates are negative at this time and I have trace proteins in my urine
i have uploaded blood and urine for yesterday.

Hi,

Thanks for writing back.

I have gone through the attached reports.

I see that the test results indicating health in kidney are normal. There is no need to panic on the same. This doesn't mean that the stones should not be attended.

If, the ultrasound scan shows multiple stones of size 8mm then I recommend you to go for Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL). The longer the stone stays in the kidney or its appendages, more damage it can cause.

Thank you Dr. However you have not explained any of my symptoms and concerns. I know that I need lithotripsy. I have no ins. I am constantly waking up to urinate and I am swollen on a daily basis in my hands feet and face. I also have constant pain.

I agree and I am sorry for not taking the symptoms into consideration in my previous post.

Pain in the back for sure could be due to the stone you have. ESWL will surely put an end to this.

Since the creatinine and urea are within range the symptoms like swelling you have might not be secondary to stone. You may have to be investigated further for any defective functioning of the cardiovascular system which can cause such swelling and fluid retention.
