Suggest Treatment For Itchy Vein Pop On Hand

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Oct 2014
Question: I suddenly had a small vein pop up in the palm of my left hand - it was very painful and also itchy at the same time - I rubbed it and it put ice on it and then held it under warm water .. It went away after about 5 minutes. This has already happened other times, but always on the side of a finger, never in the palm. Could that be something serious? It happens during different occupations, sometimes when I am not doing anything (watching TV or so) sometimes when I am cooking or working with my hands
I am preoccupied, I am female, 61 years old, in very good health otherwise, fit

Brief Answer:
Nothing serious.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The sudden popping up of the vein without any specific activity can be related to a muscle twitch of the underlying muscle. This usually happens due to benign reasons like fluid and electrolyte imbalance or Vitamin B 12 deficiency. This is not associated with any serious cause. You can increase your intake of electrolyte rich fluids like fresh citrus fruit juices and take Vitamin B complex supplements for a few weeks and see if it helps.
In case the problem persists then do consult your physician for a direct examination and proper supplements.
I hope this answers your query.

Thank you for your reply - can I ask you, in the immediate, what I should do when that happens? I mean, it is quite painful - is heat or cold best? Or, drinking water ? .. I must say, that I do have a problem drinking enough water and keep telling myself that I must drink more water .. maybe this is a good time to really take it seriously...

Brief Answer:
Cold compress will help.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Doing a cold compress in the area will give you an immediate relief by decreasing the muscle activity in the area. You can also have an electrolyte rich drink like Garotade for relief.
Hope my answer is helpful.
