Question: I am female and 34 years of age. I have had a history of hair loss since I was 21. But then after my baby was born for the next 3 years or so my hair became amazingly thick. After the hair loss restated post those 3 years I was on biotin and minoxidil 2% and I responded very well to it and my hair loss completely stopped. . But now after having used it on and off for the past 3 years it s just stopped working. I am also using Nizoral 2% shampoo and at least I don't have an itchy scalp right now which is a relief. Please help as to what can I do now. I am very very depressed about my hair loss

Brief Answer:
Drug changes and thyroid testing are indicated.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Sir.

I understand your concern.

Hair loss after stopping Minoxidil is extremely common.

Hence, Minoxidil has to be taken with Caution.

As of now DO NOT restart Minoxidil.Use 10 mg biotin instead of 5 mg per day.

Instead of Nizoral, I advise you to go for Candid TV overnight application followed early morning rinsing, twice a week for at least 3weeks in case itchy scalp recurs.

Please check with your physician if he can prescribe these new drugs and dosages to you.

Additionally I advise you to get a Complete thyroid hormone and Blood Hemoglobin levels since in many cases of female hair loss an association of hypothyroidism and anemia are found.Update me with test results.

Consume protein rich foods like Fish, Soy and Egg proteins daily.

Add pomegranate or apply to your daily calorie intake.

Avoid stress and anxiety.Regular physical exercise for 20 min is very important.

Avoid combing of wet hair.

Use mild shampoos and Oils-Dove shampoo and Almond Oil.

Review with test reports.

Post your further queries if any.

Thank you.
