Suggest Treatment For Itchy Red Bumps On Body

default
Posted on Wed, 30 Dec 2015
Question: I have had a continued itchy rash for the past two months. They are red bumps that itch terrible and pop up all over my body from neck down. Few on abdomen most of top of thighs. They get worse at night. Three months ago I finished a five month course of Acutane but two different dermatologists told me this rash was not from that. I saw an infectious disease dr. Who thought it could be from the Acutane but he did not know what this is. My concern is if it could be a virus. I took a second Medrol dospak last night as that gives me the only relief but I know that is not good to stay on for too long. I have very strong Rx Cortisones creams for temp relief. What do I do? I also do not feel good with a terrible taste in my mouth.

Brief Answer:
Possibly a parasitic infestation

Detailed Answer:
My Dear Madam

Welcome to this site.
I am Dr V XXXXXXX a Sr Dermatologist

I have studied your details and will do my best to help you get rid of the problem.I have handled a large number of individuals successfully with a profile that matches yours.

Please consider following suggestions that I have employed in my patients with success:

1 Gradually taper your steroid injectables and creams and gain control over itching using antiallergics like Levocetirizine.

2 Ivermectin 12 mg as a single dose is good to begin the treatment

3 Two creams, one with Crotamition and the other with Hydrocortisone mixed in equal proportions and applied thrice daily help control the rash and itch almost instantaneously. Can be used more often as well

4 Bed linen and personal clothing need to be separated and washed in hot water/ steam pressed.

5 Make sure that none in the family has similar problem

Once the problem is controlled, send in your pics showing affected areas and for continuation of next phase of activity which would involve using Permethrin to eradicate infestation. Using such compounds at this stage can result in discomfort.

I believe that you will be helped by the suggestions and this might take some time as the effects of steroids fade slowly.

Our best wishes!

Thank you for your in put but wrong direction. It is not Scabies or any bug infestation. We have new mattress, bedding and still had exterminator check. Also my infectious disease dr. As I stated, said in was not any organism.
My concern is as to whether this can be some sort of virus and how long can it last. I am going to have a biopsy but I think that will only alert me as to whether it is ectopic or systemic. I am so miserable from the itching and worried it can be chronic.
Thank you for your time but I know it is not an organism.

Have a good night

Brief Answer:
Biopsy can held decide the cause

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Welcome with your information.

I think a biopsy can help decide the next course of action. Since itching is bothersome, I would recommend taking anti-allergics like LEVOCETIRIZINE 5 mg once or twice a day.

Crotamiton preparations are good anti-pruritic agents and can be used safely irrespective of cause.

Best wishes.
