Suggest Treatment For Itching On The Scalp

default
Posted on Tue, 2 Feb 2016
Question: Itch on scalp. Doctor'd prescribed amcinonide lotion 0.1%, for scalp and ear canal itch. But then my pharmacist warned me that long-term use of HCs can thin your skin. Must I stop using it for that purpose, go back to MD--or continue as is? I use it at most 1-2x/week. I haven't noticed any thinning--which I do have on my temples from when I used it on my own initiative on my temples for rosacea.

Brief Answer:
continue for the prescribed duration, inform doctor if adverse effect is noted

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome.
Any medication is an external substance to the body, and all medication are capable of causing side effect.

The drug here in question is topical corticosteroid, and thinning of skin is mentioned as one of the side effect, in its adverse effect profile. But when a doctor decides to prescribe an agent, he decides it based on the benefits that the patient will have buy taking it.

I would suggest you to take the drug for a period as advised by your doctor and also I will insist you to keep a watch on the adverse effect and inform the doctor immediately.

This provisional advice provided by me is based entirely on the input provided to me. I would suggest examination by the doctor.
Hope this helps.
I'll be glad to address your further questions.
Take care
