Suggest Treatment For Irritation In Eye
Question: Hi my son of 7 yrs is complaining of an irritated eye. When I look into seeing if there is something in it, it looks like the insdide of his lower eyelid is peeling away. This occurrence appears to be happening every evening for the last week or so. It really is annoying him and driving him crazy. What should I do.

It might be necessary to get the eye examined by a doctor since the eye is a very sensitive organ.
However, if the eye is itching and child rubs on the eye, this could probably be simply due to some external foreign body. Watch carefully to check if the irritated eye appears red compared to the other. If it is the case, simple drugs like anti histaminic drugs like Naaxia eye drops , or Indomethacin eye drops, generally over the counter drugs would be helpful.
In case there is a discharge, especially if whitish or yellowish, it might be an indication of an infection. IN this case, antibiotic eye drops would be required. Gentamycin eye drops are generally sensitive to causative organisms and effective.
Checking to be sure that the irritation is not on both eyes is very important. Other associated signs and symptoms like running nose, rhinitis could be important in orienting treatment. If its just of recent onset, as you describe, only one eye affected, this should be a simple irritation. Foreign bodies like dust particles, hands of the child himself and insects are generally the cause. Eye drop anti inflammatory drops like Indimethacin and at times antibiotics, if discharge like Gentamycin eye drops would be grossly sufficient.

Thnaks for coming back to me on this question. I removed white/ creamy stringy puss from the eye and bottom eyelid. It appeared to be peeling from the inside eyelid. Have you heard of Mucus fishingsyndrome of the eye? Could this be what my son has? I will bring him to the doctor tomorrow anyway but your opinion would be appreciated with any suggustions on treatment.

The onset, duration and the fact that pus was removed is indicative of an infectious process, I really do not think this should be that serious. Local eye drops anti biotics, coupled by systemic antibiotics, based on the gravity by your doctor should sufficient in my opinion. Anti inflammatory drugs could help in reducing pain, redness and any itches.
IN f Mucus fishings syndrome of the eye, it is usually cyclical, comes and goes and is usually associated with dry eyes. It seems not to be the case here in my opinion. Not to be completely excluded, but in my opinion unlikely.
