Suggest Treatment For Irritation And Pain In Penis

Question: My insurance was axed until March, so I'm kinda desperate. For the past week the area right below the glans on my shaft (where the skin is really lose, I'm cut) has been itchy on and off. When it gets hard it gets INCREDIBLY itchy. Like morning wood wakes me up with how bad it itches.

The area doesn't look inflamed and only mildly red sometimes. I do have a patch of red on the tip of my penis though that is healing. I assumed it was from too much masturbating, or eczema since I also have that.

I've tried using the creams I use for eczema on the itch, but it doesn't seem to be clearing it up. A while back a doctor gave me a sample of Elidel for the bit on the tip and it cleared it up, but its back. I've since gone through the rest of the sample, and it didn't seem to make any difference for this new itch. The tip rash itself does not itch.

I am not sexually active at all and barely leave the house so STD is out other than that, its not discharging anything or doing anything else nasty.

Any help at all would be amazing. I was thinking of trying anti-fungals, but it doesnt show any of the signs of fungal infection other than itch.

Brief Answer:
Oral and topical antifungals

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for writing to us on HCM.
I have reviewed your query and pictures.
The lesion over your genitals seems like some fungal skin infection ( tinea)
I would suggest you to take oral itraconazole 200mg daily for 10 days and apply sertaconazole cream twice daily for atleast 2 weeks. These prescription drugs work better than over the counter antifungals.

Use ketoconazole soap to rinse the area and maitain hygiene.

I am sure you will be fine soon enough.
Wish you best of health,
Take care

Hey! thanks for the info. I won't be able to get perscription drugs unfortunately until march (No insurance until then).

Are there any over the counter alternatives for both?

Brief Answer:
Try OTC creams like CANESTEN

Detailed Answer:
I am afraid you wont get Itraconazole or any antifungal tablets in OTC but meanwhile you can apply OTC antifungal cream available as CANESTEN or LOTRIMIN. Apply the antifugal cream thrice a day for 3 weeks.
Take antihistaminics like Benadryl to relieve itching.

Alright. I will get one of the otc variants then.

One more double check, i cant seem to find any image of tinea that doesnt have that circular rash. I dont have any of that, and the itchy part under my glans doesnt even have a rash. Is it just not visible sometimes?

Brief Answer:
Morphology can be altered by application of other creams

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Yes the actual morphology of tinea is ring-like lesion but due to application of steroid cream the morphology changes and thus its difficult to diagnose.
I am sure you will be fine with the treatment I have highlighted to you.
Thanks and take care
