Hello and welcome,
I understand your concern and congratulate you as you have taken the precaution to read the attached paper.
Yaz contains estrogen and
progesterone combination. The estrogen component is known to decrease milk production in some women. It does this to a smaller extent once feeding is established, but still this is a know effect. It is also secreted in the breast milk in smaller amount.
So the use must follow if the benefit is more than the risk of decreasing breast milk. Meaning if the bleeding is severe then it may be used, but then you must know that it may affect breast milk.
Having said this, I suggest that you must first determine why you are having this bleeding. Most of the time it is due to
hormonal imbalances, thyroid problems etc. A pelvic
ultrasound and a hormone test will help.
Regular exercise, diet low in fat and rich in fruits and green veges also helps regulate normal
metabolism and hormonal environment.
If you need to use a pill it is better to use a progesterone only pill like
micronor as they are safer than combined pills like Yaz. However even these are best avoided if possible.
Still I suggest that you may first try drugs that control bleeding like
tranexamic acid and lifestyle measures. Meanwhile try to determine the cause of the bleeding by examination and investigation. If the bleeding is still there and no cause is found try the progesterone only pill or injectable depo provera progesterone or progesterone containing IUD called Mirena as this will act as
contraceptive and also provide progesterone to control bleeding.
If it is possible to wean the baby if it is more than 8-9 months then try it before going for the pills. So discuss all these options with your doctor and then decide about the proper treatment.
Hope this satisfies your query.
Thanks for using HCM.
