Suggest Treatment For Interstitial Lung Disease

default
Posted on Wed, 4 Mar 2015
Question: Hi, I have interstitial lung disease. I have been taking drugs like prednisone, azathioprine (new medication after taking myfortic previously), metformin, rosavastatin, pantoprazole, calcuim, multi-vitamins and minerals. For many months now, since October, 2014, I started having smell and taste sensitivity to any food with any kind of oil in it. Because of this, I have been continuously losing weight because I have not been able to eat much. The smell of cooked food actually bothers me a lot. I can't think of anything else that can cause it. My doctors said it's probably side effect of my medications. Can somebody help me get rid of this sensitivity? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Alteration of smell and taste sensitivity ?drug induced

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.
Out of all the drugs you are now having, azathioprine is the only cytotoxic drug which strongly affects proliferating cells including mucosal cells of tongue and can cause alteration of taste sensation.
You can also undergo liver function taste to exclude any derangement caused by drugs you are taking.Uremia also can cause alteration of taste sensation.Blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels need to be checked.
Please let me know what kind of interstitial lung disease(ILD) you are having.
