Suggest Treatment For Intermittent Palpitations And Anxiety

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Nov 2016
Question: I just had a cardiologist appointment and she examined me and gave me an ecg. I'm scheduled for a stress test and echo, she said my heart sounds strong, and my BP was 112/80 (great for me). I've had palpitations on and off lately and mild chest discomfort, just wondering if this is good news or the next tests are the real deciding factor? I've had BP issues and anxiety issues recently and this makes me worry a lot.

Brief Answer:
The next tests are detailed and important

Detailed Answer:
Hi Sir,
Thanks for writing in to us.

The ECG is a basic test which tells the heart rhythm and rate. It gives an insight into the electrical activity of your heart.

Blood pressure recording is to know the pressure at which blood is flowing through your arteries. Your blood pressure is nomal.

Echocardiography gives information on the heart chambers and the valves in the heart. It is sensitive to show any valve defects and enlargement of heart chambers with detailed flow information.

Stress test will study the function of your heart under stress. This mainly gives an idea of the ability of coronary arteries to supply the heart under stress conditions.

Therefore the echocardiography and stress test are more detailed tests and both are equally important to know various parameters of heart function.

Coming back to your query, your basic test results like ecg and blood pressure are normal and the next tests are the deciding factors on the performance of your heart and I hope it turns out to be normal.

Hope your query is answered.
