Posted on Thu, 2 Feb 2017
Question: My daughter (2.5 yrs old) is getting intermittent fever from the past 3 days. On her first day she vomited 1-2 times but from past 24 hrs continuously vomiting even after taking water only. We are only giving Paracetamol syrup whenever she is getting high fever.

She is passing normal stool and no chest congestion/cold symptoms. Pls advise on the same.

Brief Answer:
ORS is the mainstay of treatment.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. Your child possibly has a viral infection. You need to give some antiemetic like ondansetron when required to bring down the vomiting. Give ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replenish the lost water and salts. This is the mainstay of treatment. Continue to give paracetamol to bring down the temperature. Also give tepid sponging. Hopefully it would be ok back again in the next few days.

Thanks for your prompt response!!!

I gave her one dosage of ondoc syrup but still she isn't able to inhale anything. She vomits even if we are giving her ORS. She seems to be having fever but records normal with thermometer.

Brief Answer:
You need to be patient.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. The vomiting may continue for the next couple of days but you need to continue to give the antiemetic syrup when required. You can give Nexpro Junior XXXXXXX one such twice daily for next few days. You need to continue to give ORS even though it would not stop the vomiting. You need to be patient and the vomiting would eventually subside.
