Question: Hello Dr XXXXXXX Im 19 year old college going girl. I m suffering from insomnia from my childhood, but it took its high pitch before 3 years. I don't have nay worry but I feel more energetic at night. I feel like its day time. In day time whatever I do, I feel so sleepy, even I eat or not or I m restless or not. So I love waking at night but the classes are at day time so I m sometimes unable to cope with it. WHAT SHOULD I DO? I HAVE TRIED MANY THINGS, ALTHOUGH I DONT TAKE SLEEPING PILLS NOR WANT TO. I DONT HAVE ANY DEPRESSION OR TENSION.

Please guide me.
Thank you

Brief Answer:
Improve Sleep hygiene by natural means

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Madam.

I can certainly understand your concerns.

I apologize for the delayed response owing to my work schedule.

I have worked through your query in detail.

You possibly seem to have sleep onset insomnia.

A preference to nocturnal behavior can have few cognitive disturbances in the daytime.

Since you are not willing to take sleep inducing pills, it's important to carry out good sleep hygiene measures.

They are as follows.

1. Sleep and wake up at a fixed time.

2. Avoid spending time with electronic gadgets just prior to sleep time.

3. Have an intense shower prior to sleep.

4. Have physical activity sessions in the evening.

5. Consumption of milk and banana at bedtime will help to induce good sleep.

6. Prefer cotton wear and silky pillow covers.

7. Stay adequately hydrated with 3 liters of water a day.

8. Avoid stress and anxiety.

9. Avoid excessive caffeine intake escpecilly before sleep.

10. A short course of yoga and meditation will have greater impact.

Post your further queries if any.
Thank you.
