Brief Answer:
Drugs can be taken

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing through HCM.

I have read your query but I want to ask few questions:
1. Do you have any stress recently?
2. For how long have you been experiencing sleep problems?
3. Have you taken any drugs?
4. Did you change the place for sleep recently?

Short term management of insomnia can be done with drugs. Before that you have to take sleep hygiene measures. Read regarding sleep hygiene from the internet anf follow the steps.

Answer the questions and revert back.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Sleep hygiene will help

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.

5 years is quite a long time for sleep disturbance. Few more questions:
Did you have any psychiatric illness in the past? Anxiety or depression? Does the problem is related to studies?

Sleep hygiene measures are very important and you should practice it.
If a person has sleep disturbance for short duration then sleeping pills can be prescribed but you have difficulty sleeping for last 5 years, so it requires detailed assessment.

Take sleep hygiene measures and after few days visit a psychiatrist and tell him all the problems. Ask for detailed evaluation. Follow his advice.

For short term management I usually prescribe 5 to 10 mg of zolpidem at night time. You have to visit a doctor for prescription also.

I hope this would help.
Wish you good health.

Brief Answer:
Modification of life style would help

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thanks for writing again.

As per your narration of the problem, I feel that you do not need drugs but modification of life style and sleep hygiene measures.

Follow the underlying steps:
1. Take dinner at regular time daily around 8.30 PM.
2. Do not take alcohol
3. Do not take activating drinks like tea, coffee, cola after 4.00 PM.
4. Use bed for sleep only.
5. Do not watch TV or play video game after 8.00 PM.
6. Take a bath just before bed.
7. Drink a cup of milk before going to bed.
8. Read study books or novels while in bed with dim light.
9. You can listen your favorite music.
10. Wake up at same time daily.
11. Do not take day time naps.

I hope following above steps would help. Drugs is not the treatment for your sleep disturbance.
