Suggest Treatment For Insect Bite Hypersensitivity After Taking Cetrizine Syrup

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: Hello - my son is 6 months old. We recently started solid foods (began with carrot puree) 2 days back. Also he had an insect bite - so we gave him cetrizine syrup and calak lotion was applied on the bite portion.

However, today, he developed a pus like symptom on his right calf leg (different spot than the insect bites). I have attached a couple of pictures showing the development. Could you please take a look and advise.

Brief Answer:
looks like insect bite hypersensitivity

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
I have seen the attached pictures.
Based on your history and description and images it looks like insect bite hypersensitivity.
It is possible that he has been bitten at these new sites too, most common insects include mosquito, ants, small cot spiders.
It is better to check his bedding and clothes and ensure they are insect free.
The hypersensitivity resulting in these blisters will respond to cetrizine syrup.

You can continue that for 3 to 5 days.
Calak lotion can be applied too.
Ensure mosquito nets during sleeping. Cover his legs and hands fully during sleep.
However if the blisters increase or if he develops fever you need to consult your doctor.
Wishing your child good health.
Regards
Dr Arun
