Question: My throat seems inflamed, and it hurts to swallow. Is there something over the counter for this?

Yes there are over the counter medications that can be used for sore throat.

The most common cause of sore throat is viral infection though bacterial infection can also occur.
In most cases , if it is viral, the symptoms improve in 2 to 4 days.

There are over the counter meds that may help you during this time, one of the following may be used: (1)chloroseptic spray or gargle- this is combination of antiseptic and pain meds

(2)difflam- this is for pain mainly

(3)covonia throat spray- contains pain killer and anti septic

(4)bethadine mouth wash

In addition, if you use oral anti inflammatory pain killers such as ibuprofen or naproxen, you should also have some relief.
