Suggest Treatment For Indigestion And Extreme Pressure Under Ribs

default
Posted on Thu, 5 Feb 2015
Question: I'm wondering about the indigestion that I have been suffering from for several days now. It started about 3 days ago with extreme pressure right under the center of my ribs and above my naval. In the past I have felt similar sharp pain and pressure and usually an antacid like Zantac helps.

The strange thing in this instance, I didn't experience any heart burn pain in my chest, just the severe sharp pain under my ribs. It felt like there is an apple stuck under my ribs.

The pressure has subsided a little pit but it keeps coming back in waves. I've tried not eating anything, all different kinds of antacids, I've drank cold pressed alkaline juices like aloe and apple cider vinegar, but to no avail.

The two things I wonder are one, could it be be a hernia in my upper intestine? Two, I also experience pain in my back and during movement and when I breath deep, is it such a thing that I had so much "gas" pressure that I injured my diaphragm? I don't want to go to a doctor just for them to tell me that I have "gas". please help

Brief Answer:
Might not be gastritis

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for the query

Sharp pain which is below the rib cage radiating to the back might not always be gastritis especially if you are not completely relieved with antacids. The most common reason for pain radiating to the back is pancreatitis.
However a very close differential for this would be hiatus hernia, which is nothing but herniation of esophagus and the stomach.

Here is how you should go about it
1. Avoid smoking, alcohol and spicy food
2. Eat regularly, smaller meals 3-4 times a day is better than 3 large meals
3. Do not sleep immediately after dinner, stay up for atleast 2 hours
4. Do not engage in bending exercises
5. Tab Omeprazole is ideal for this type of pain. Take one before food for 7 days

I also recommend that you get evaluated for this as soon as possible by an ultrasound and endoscopy.

I hope I was of help, if you have any further query please get back to me

Regards
