Suggest Treatment For Impetigo

default
Posted on Wed, 23 Nov 2016
Question: Doctor recently diagnosed me with impetigo, but being a sexually active XXXXXXX man I'm concerned it's herpes or an acute HIV rash. HIV test came back negative today. I cut open a single zit/sore shaving last week and then the sores started to spread all along my chin. No symptoms other than this rash and no sores inside my mouth. Do i need a second opinion?

Brief Answer:
Impetigo; Oral and Topical antibiotics for a week

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I am dr.kakkar(dermatologist and venereologist). I have gone through your query and I have reviewed the Image.

It does look like impetigo to me - Red, raw area with honey colored crusts in beard area.
Impetigo is a superficial bacterial infection. It is a very common bacterial (staph aureua) skin infections and is not suggestive of HIV infection.
I would suggest you to take an oral penicillin antibiotic e.g either amoxicillin or cephalexin, for a week and you may also use a topical antibacterial e.g 2% mupirocin cream, twice daily.
