Suggest Treatment For Hypothyroidism

Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: Hello Dr,

I am XXXX and I am asking this question on behalf of my wife Mrs. XXXX

First Thyroid test was taken on Jun-2013 and the doctor suggested to take Thyroxine Sodium Tables IP, ELTROXIN 150Mg for 3 Months.
Second Thyroid Test was taken on Sep-2013 and the doctor suggested to take Thyroxine Sodium Tables IP, ELTROXIN 50Mg for 7 Months.
Third Thyroid test (Without taking the tablet) was taken on May-2014 and we couldn’t consult the doctor as we haven’t got a chance to go to our home town. All the values on the report are under control.

Requesting you to please refer the attached reports and please suggest if my wife needs to continue with Same 50 MG or reduce the power or can she stop taking the tablets. She is not taking the tablets for last 3 days and she is feeling tried.

Thanks and Regards
XXXX

Brief Answer:
reports normal, continue same dose.

Detailed Answer:
Dear mr. XXXXXXX Hi! as per your query, let me explain, your wife is hypothyroid. she was prescribed the right drug, but was over dosed. so TSH got suppressed , now when dose was corrected she got the right balance. thyroid disorders are not cured they are only corrected. so now she has the right dose , so she needs to continue the same dose and repeat thyroid tests every three month. while going through her reports i also noticed she has high LH so though it was not your query but if i may ask , is she having regular periods? what is her BMI? how many children do you have? Regards!

Brief Answer:
Control weight.

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, her thyroid is now finely balanced so continue same dose of 50 mcg. as she is overweight by 9 kg , she must lose those extra kilos and start with metformin 500 mg thrice a day all after meal ie breakfast , lunch and dinner. she will be fine within 3 -6 months. repeat tests TSH , ft4 , LH, FSH after 3 months. second day of periods, fasting 8 am sample and do let me know. regards!
